| | Rolling Stones - Paint It Black | ] | Last night I went to see Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and was transported in a colourful world of candy and make believe. While it is always popular to poke fun at Oompa-Loompas I just couldn't during this movie. They (rather 'he' since they were all played by the same actor) were brilliant! There were moments so touching that a tear escaped down my face. While Ebert & Roper didn't like Jonny Depp's portrayl or look of Willy Wonka, I thought it was perfect. Same thing does for all the bad little children that join Charlie on his trip through the factory. They all had a story book quality to their make up that made them just as creepy as Roald Dahl had written them to be. The sets had a perfect blend of Dahl and Burton to them that was hard to ignore.
While the movie is geared toward children, my theater was filled to capacity with people my age. And older. While I'll attribute the staggering number of women to Jonny Depp, it could also be because more girls tended to read books when I was a kid. *not a valid statistic* The only real complaint I have is that some of the Oompa-Loompa songs were a little hard to understand, but I suppose that fits in nicely. All in all this movie gets a 5/5 for nostalgia, and a 4/5 for the whole. I will definatly be buying this one when it is released.
From the time I left the house I felt like I had a fist squeezing my stomach closed. It was entirely stress related and ice cream helped to calm it. By the time the trailers started, it was gone. I still have the stress, just not the pain.
After the movie carvedinshadows, xothia, weaselnation and I headed off to Indigo for Potter mania. Rather I kept them company by loosing them amongst the throng and ran into don_teo who was also seaching for his friends. In and out in in under twenty minutes, which was about all I could handle of that *I'm so not a Potter fan*. Caught my last bus home and spent a few bored hours in front of the television trying to find something other than paid advertisements. In bed at four, up at nine.
Today I go and get my other bookshelf so I can finaly get most of my living room taken care of. I'm still waiting on my replacement pieces to the wall unit. My carpets should be coming in soon too. Hmm... I should head out to Rona as well.
Will this place ever be finished and ready to party in? Stay tuned to find out! |
